The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie
5.0
Those little grey cells liked this book very much.
I was a little disappointed to realize at the beginning that I would have to get to know the main character who was serving as our narrator. I also found myself being a tad bit dissatisfied, at first, with Poirot coming in having retired from detective work and quite older than when I knew him last.
But, as I continued to read, the characters and the murder and the pace kept me thoroughly entertained and I soon forgot my initial distaste with this story.
The ending, which I wouldn't spoil for the world, was utterly fantastic, essentially dropping in with one of my favorite literary elements.
This is one of those fantastic reads where, upon finishing, you immediately want to share with other people. Your face is luminous with this knowledge of the story that unfolded before your very eyes in perfect harmony with the characters, setting, and plot. Just delightful.
