(4.5 stars) Something’s not right at the Sun Down Motel. It wasn’t right in 1982, when Carly’s aunt Viv worked there and disappeared without a trace during a night shift. And it isn’t right now, when Carly arrives in town to begin her own investigation into her aunt’s disappearance. Can either Carly or Viv uncover all the secrets lurking within the motel’s rooms?

What a fantastic thriller! Well, actually I’d call it more of a “chiller” — which is a term I recently learned from @crimebythebook, and means a thriller with supernatural elements. The alternating timelines and POVs from Viv (the aunt) and Carly (the niece) made the book such a page turner! I binged this book in about two sittings — I couldn’t put it down once I got to a certain point! There was a definite creep factor, and although I’d never call this one a classic horror, there were some seriously spooky moments! I think it could actually be a great “starter” read for anyone interested in dipping their toe in the horror genre pond! I am so glad I finally read a book by Simone St. James, and I want to read another one by this author ASAP!

If you like a suspenseful, page-turning mystery and are into ghost stories, this one is absolutely a must read!
