Just Kids by Patti Smith

5.0

Patti Smith is an amazing woman. I've been lucky enough to see her perform a number of times, and she never lets me down. Last time I saw her she covered Adele's Rolling In the Deep, calling it the song of the summer. Anyways, the point is that while reading this story I could hear her. every word she wrote had the fluidity of poetry and song. This is a story of love and enduring friendship while searching for artistic fame. A relationship built on a common goal... It makes you realize how much different it is for artists now. And the lack of art in our modern celebrities.

I wish I could write poems, I wish I could sing songs, I wish I could front a punk rock band. Maybe I could if I had the confidence that Patti does. But for now, I'm happy to settle on admiring her beauty, style, persona and art from the cheap seats (well there was that one time I scored free VIP tickets and sat near Hermione, errr Emma Watson).

Seriously, this was a wonderfully written story that Patti promised to share at the request of her dying friend/lover/brother in 1989. I highly recommend it and would also advise you to listen to her album Horses.
