The first half and the second half of this book are two different books. The first half I was actually thoroughly enjoying it. Despite the fact that I found the main character slightly unlikable. It was clear that the audience is in the dark about a lot of things but the author did a great job of keeping the audience engaged.
Until a pivotable point in the middle where a random scene occurred that through me completely off. Although it is later explained and eventually makes sense, I personally couldn’t get back into the story. The main character felt like she had no growth and the romance fizzled out for me.
This book is marked as a romance. But I find the romance took a back seat to a lot of other themes in the book. I think I would have enjoyable it more as the themes discussed in the book were enjoyable.
I would also argue that at times there was too much going on with the side characters. It took my out of the story and found it boring at times.
