People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

3.0

Henry has a superpower that makes you care about any relationship - even if the characters are painfully ignorant. As soon as I started People We Meet on Vacation and realized that the main character is a travel journalist, I started to have doubts: would Henry in any way acknowledge the impact flying has on our climate, or would constant traveling go uncriticized? Unfortunately, it’s the latter. Which is absurd as we see the characters refer to the climate crisis, but they never make the connection to their unsustainable flying habits. Of course their flights are fictional and emit nothing, but I think it’s harmful to spread the message that there’s nothing problematic about frequently flying for pleasure. But, the romance is lovely and the banter brilliant, as it always is with Henry. I just wish she’d include sustainability in her stories. It could have a big impact.
