Really enjoyed this book. The main character, Zilan is competent and vibrant. The supporting characters are enjoyable, and the romance was believable. The build up of horror was quickly ramped up. The twists and reveals were well done and paced so that each one packed a punch. If you are a fan of anime, this book has very big Full Metal Alchemist vibes. The writing was more on the YA side so it was an easy and quick read. My only critique is it did feel a bit rushed. I think it would have benefited from being longer in order to develop the plot lines and tertiary characters more. But overall, very enjoyable read. Nothing jumped out at me as annoying or poorly done. Looking forward to the sequel.
