Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle

4.0

I think this book is an amazing and fun horror. It has all the elements of the sarcastic and feisty main characters. I really enjoyed reading this one and struggled to put it down. I thought it was really cool how Misha who is only openly out in LA, though all of his movies and shows really indicate his sexuality, refuses the networks demands to kill his gay characters off. I really enjoyed the reasoning for this because throughout the story we get flashbacks to pivotal moments in Misha's life and how important seeing a character like him was. I really enjoyed also getting to see some of the moments from his past that inspired his movie characters. However, it was devasting that all of these moments were traumas pertaining to his sexuality.
I think the horror part of this book was so cool. It felt like all those creepy things you love about your favorite horror movies. It had horror tropes and then it was like nope, not going the way you thought sorry. It had some super gross moments which also really fit the horror movie vibe. I think though at the root the story was less about the horror and addressing the monsters from our past that hold us back in some way or another. I have to admit that now I need more horror books by Chuck Tingle in my life basically right now. It was just such an engaging read. I would highly recommend it.
