Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

5.0

4.5
Ever since it was announced the Crazy Rich Asians was going to be adapted as a movie and especially when the trailer came out, I’ve been wanting to read it. And it took me a while but now I can finally say that I have read it and can finally watch the movie.
The book follows Rachel Chu who agrees to go to Singapore with her boyfriend Nicholas Young to meet his family and to go to his best friend’s wedding. When she gets there she realizes that her boyfriend isn’t who she thought he was, he happens to be a part of one of the richest families in all of Singapore and is the country’s most eligible bachelor.
While I had quite a few problems with the book it was so much fun and so entertaining that I couldn’t give it any less than 4.5 stars. This is a perfect book to read in a summer vacation, not only because it is set in summer, but it’s such a quick and enjoyable read.
But, like I said I still had problems with the book, particularly with the last 100 pages, which I felt just ended up changing the plot of the story right on the end, when everything was supposed to be tied up, making everything be resolved way too easily and quickly.
I also had a problem with the way Kevin Kwan chose to tell this story, the book is separated by chapters in characters POVs or by the character's location, and while it did work in the last half of the story, it didn’t in the beginning, just when you where getting accustomed to a character and started to like them, Kwan changed the POV and then went back to that other character a few chapters later, and while I do understand why he did that, I don’t think it’s a good choice to do that right in the beginning of a story when you’re meeting the main cast of characters and being introduced to the world.
I will definitely be continuing with the series and can’t wait to see what happens to these characters in the future.
