The Killing Game by Kate Bold
5.0
I won this book in a goodreads giveaway and I was so pleasantly surprised by it! Alexa (and of course Stuart, the golden retriever of a man I didn’t think I would like at all) were so fun to follow. Honestly I’m ready for a crime show based on those two. Alexa is batshit (and badass) 86% of the time and Stuart is just trying to keep them both alive and I live for that dynamic.
A problem I often have with crime books told from the perspective of law enforcement is that I often feel detached from the character - like they exist as a intelligent officer/agent but don’t exist outside of that office. Bold did a wonderful job of letting us see glimpses into Alexa’s life that informed us about who she cares about, what motivates her, and how she became who she is- making us CARE about her. Her relationship with the neighbor girl she’s all but adopted was wonderful but what really shined for me was her connection to her father and brothers. Pure family love at its best.
Overall a wonderful crime book that I recommend!
