Let's geopolitics now: UNDERSTAND THE WORLD THROUGH GEOPOLITICS - A SIMPLE GUIDE TO EXPLORE THE GLOBE FROM 2000 TO 2022 by Antonella Silipigni

1.0

An obvious independently published book, there are plenty of grammar and formatting mistakes in the Kindle version (eBook version does not currently exist in Goodreads). Either from a sloppy translation or just a lack of an editor (not sure if the title is just bad grammar or a whimsical verbing of the topic), either way this book suffers more for it. Upon further retrospection, I have reasons to suspect this book is just an AI generated cash grab.

With that said, it is an overly generalized introduction of the major points of Geopolitics at the end of 2021 (not 2022 as the sub-title suggests with no mention of the Russia invasion of Ukraine in Feb 2022). The author introduces Geopolitics in the simplest terms possible, without flushing out any of the core ideas. At the end, this book briefly goes into how geopolitics can be applied to other industries (literature, tv and cinema). What is desperately missing is any sort of direction on how to get started in this field, or next steps outside of "go to school" and "attend conferences".

Part two is all of three pages, where the author thinks they are explaining a method to "understanding and utilizing geopolitics", but does not explain any such method. An example of how to "analyze" the US is given in the broadest terms imaginable. What is missing from this book is any introduction of analysis, biases or reference to the many techniques and pitfalls in geopolitical analysis.

Part Three is just an around-the-world generalization of different countries and their pressing geopolitical points of interest, which makes up the bulk (around 200 of the 278 pages) of this book.

In the end, this is a book to skip. You will learn more with a few intro to geopolitics articles from reputable magazines and sites like Stratfor, Foreign Affairs, and Geopolitical Futures.
