Thé Tjong-Khing illustrated many of the books I loved as a child. In "Russische sprookjes," his talent shines through in this collection of Russian fairy tales, brought to life with his beautiful illustrations.

The book features 14 different tales, including some well-known ones. While a few of the stories might seem a bit generic compared to the classic fairy tales we're used to, Thé Tjong-Khing's artwork gives them a unique charm and depth that makes the whole collection stand out.

The stories reflect the societal norms of their time, with brave, handsome knights, damsels in distress who quickly fall for their saviors, and villains like dragons, monsters, witches, or corrupt individuals. Despite these traditional roles, the tales are well-told and have a sense of humor and relatability that make them enjoyable even today.
