I really love how creative this approach to vampires was but I just couldn’t get past the forced relationship, sub-par writing, and how bored I was. It’s a really promising premise and I thought the vampire lore itself was really fun (literally freezing in time when you become a vampire, having a talisman that ties you to life, a forced link between creator and created, etc.). I just don’t care enough about any of the characters and just didn’t believe the stakes or the romance. Maybe I’ll return to it but I honestly just found myself counting down the minutes until I could move on to my next read.
