All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
5.0
I listened to this one on audio, and the narrator did a great job overall. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.
I have never read a WW2 book like this. Little to no mention of the Holocaust, rather a deep focus on a boy trained to be a Nazi radio operator and a young blind French girl in occupied France. And a diamond.
This book took me to places I didn't expect to go, and the grief all mixed up with hope was profound. It made me care, and cry, and root for the two kids.
It's a beautiful book. From beginning to end. Beautiful storytelling, beautiful writing, beautiful character, and a rich, beauty-from-ashes authenticity that's hard to pull off.
I loved it.
