We're in This Together: A Young Readers Edition of We Are Not Here to Be Bystanders by Linda Sarsour
4.0
When requesting Sarsour's book from the library I accidentally reequested this young adult version. To save time I decided to read it and read the adult version later. The one thing I found distracting was the occasional teaching moment, statements that I suppose were felt necessary for young readers. I will read the original and hope to find it more subtle.
The timing was good though. In these days of shock following the 2024 election it is good to read or multiple protests from the recent past, including the women's march on Jan 17, 2017. Though I am 8 years older and may not march this time, it was good to be reminded. Though what seemed success in 2020 when the book was written has since been undone, that it was once done is encouraging that it can be again.
