I Will Protect You: A True Story of Twins Who Survived Auschwitz by Eva Mozes Kor
5.0
As a bookseller I was given the opportunity to read I Will Protect You early, and I'm glad I did. I feel like I was unprepared for the reality of Aushcwitz. Part of this books purpose aims to rectify that. So that history, even when it was brutal, can still be learned. Through Eva and Miriam's experiences we are transported to a labor camp, later to Auschwitz and Dr. Mengele's lab, seeing the horrors they faced. The text is removed enough to keep a barrier between the reader and too much reality, but it was still enough to pack a punch. Danica Davidson's writing brought me so close to Eva and Miriam. I felt, by the end of it, that I knew them. They came alive and I cheered their bravery, and cried with their sorrows. There is a happy ending though, Eva and Miriam did grow up. Thus with Davidson's help Eva was able to tell her story. I look forward to reading it again when it is released in January, and hand selling I Will Protect You.
