Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
5.0
FIVE STAR ALL AROUND!
I must start off my saying this book hit home for me. Losing someone so close, not matter if they be family or friend before it's time and having to watch as they wither away,is probably the cruelest way the universe could take someone from you.
Back to the book. It was a moving tale to be sure. I was transformed by the end and in tears. It just wasn't about Taylor Edwards coming back because they want one last summer before her father passes. It was about responsibility, trust, opening yourself up and moving on; to let go of the things you can't change and take care of the problems you have the power to.
The writing wasn't atrocious but there could have been more, I don't know, pizaz if that's even a real word. It was easy to read and I Simply could not for the life of me get the story out of my head. Taylor's father stays with her even after he's put six feet under and still reminding her of the puns they shared and the memories she got. The lake was healing place for that family as well as a man's last hoo-ra.
This was an astounding accomplishment as a novel. It stayed with me even as I closed the cover to end of a journey.
