Northern Wrath by Thilde Kold Holdt

5.0

The start of the Hanged God trilogy which is also this quarters @thebrokenbinding subscription pick

This is a great example of why I love a subscription, it introduces you to books which you might not’ve heard of before or books you probably wouldn’t pick up, and that would be a massive shame in this case

You can tell this author is really educated in all things Norse mythology, the attention to detail with the world building and the lore is really prominent and you get transported into this Viking adventure from the get go. Oh and of course there’s lots of bloodshed from the many Viking encounters, the action scenes are far from ‘Loki’

I think this really would be suited to anyone who enjoys epic fantasy as this is an epic Viking novel with the lore driven story giving it those fantasy feels. I enjoyed the darkness sections and the concept of the fylgja which will be appreciated by anyone who loves animal companions

All the characters are distinct and they definitely belong in this world. I loved following all the character arcs, even if I had a love/hate relationship with some of them and how this book ended has left me wanting more

The writing did take a little while to get used to but I was soon absorbed in all things Vikings and I am ready for Shackled Fates
