Blood Ties by Alexandra Keillor

3.0

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Ooof i was really looking forward to this book but I'd spent the majority of Blood Ties shouting at Drew and i'm still pretty uncool about it! But there was some very steamy MMM action, and also some regular old supernatural fighty action, so the last quarter of this really came through for me!

This installment had a lot going on, and while some of that was fun, i didn't feel emotionally connected to the throuple in this. Sure they were hot to read when the lights went out, but I was stymied by Drew's inability to share his story with his loved ones, which i'd figured out within 7 seconds of the first chapter...and i wasn't the only one!

I just. Wasn't. Getting. It.

I know no one told Drew the deets about London, but reading the room wasn't difficult to parse, babe!

Remember: If you're old enough to fk, you're old enough to communicate...especially important shit like: just as a heads up, it has been brought to my attention that my being in your space may compromise your security, as i see you are currently dealing with some violent supes who are likewise compromising your security.

Other than that (for 3/4 of the book), I really liked the fight scenes, because mage-boy Sam and wolfed-out Drew were pretty badass, and Kieran was super fab as expected! But the plot was a bit OTT, and my shouting "whaaaaaaat?!?!?!" every 10% was a bit too much, even for me. I don't mind complex or complicated, but some of this was hamster wheel motion, and i think the emotional resonance suffered a bit because of all the "keep-it-close-to-the-chest" contrivances.

But it all got sorted in the end, and the last 25% was really awesome and left me with a good feelings and a proper hook for Book 3, Out For Blood, so I'm very excited for that! Crai Vasile and Alpha Deacon promise to be powerhouse badasses, and i'm very much looking forward to that vampy-wolf "it's impossible" steamy tension, as they've a mutual evil villain to vanquish and teamwork does indeed make the dream work! Can't wait!
