The Hunter by Tana French

5.0

Tana French writes a mean novel. And this Cal Hooper series is a standout. The fierce, tender, calculating, generous, implacable, loyal, stubborn emotions that flit across the face of young Trey as she figures life out emphatically FOR HERSELF just had me reading sentence after sentence aloud to invite my partner to savor the language and the subtlety. And the same could be said for Cal Hooper and for Lena who care about her like basketball players blocking out opponents to allow her to take her shot. It builds to an inexorable tension where all ways out look not good. And then in an amazing finale it resolves.

Read The Searcher (Cal Hooper #1) first; you need to understand what set these things in motion.
