Forsaken Desires by Ashley James
5.0
(ARC Review)
I loved this book even more than the first in the series.
The relationship between Knox and Aston is so well developed from beginning to end that every detail of the swirling emotions within each is appreciated, especially in Knox, as Aston is much more laid back (he is a mischievous sunshine, which is not to say that he lacks vulnerabilities). And it is understandable, since the childhood and adolescence of each one is very different and opposite. Where Aston's family was and is loving and supportive, Knox's family is... NOT.
In fact, it's amazing that Knox, despite his traumatic life and his tough and serious outer shell, is inside a sweet and warm person, hungry for the affection that was denied him from his childhood to his adult life.
It's an incredible and very painful journey for Knox to break out of that shell and free himself from the reins of an extremely abusive father and neglectful, selfish mother. And despite the bumps in the road, Aston was with him for much of that journey, knew how to set limits when he needed them and knew how to be at the end of the road.
Needless to say, Katie was a great pillar (we all need a friend like her, the world would be much better), and let's not forget the beautiful family he found in his group of friends.
Please pay attention to the warnings. There are several triggers in this book and if you are sensitive to them then read it carefully.
In short, an excellent and emotional story, full of everything one looks for in a book, fun, banter, hate, spicy sex, drama and anguish and finally, love. And the truth is that this author no longer surprises me.
