The Devil Crept In by Ania Ahlborn

'Jude Brighton was missing. Stevie Clark stood at the edge of the woods, his small hands clasped together, watching people comb the trees for his friend.'
Ten year old Stevie, with his vocal tics and occasional hallucinations, is quirky and brave and pretty extraordinary. He's on a mission to discover what happened to his cousin/best friend. This feels like Stephen King, directed by Rob Zombie. It captures horror from a kids' perspective, and it hits hard! I was spooked and frustrated (on Stevie's behalf) and amazed at how determined this kid is to save his only friend.
'Suddenly, he wasn't so sure he wanted to go into those woods after all.'
