4.5 stars because it was either too long or too short. The world the author has built is absolutely gorgeous and fascinating. It takes about 100 pages to fully understand what is going on, and then it builds and ends very quickly. I think the ending could have had so much more and feel a bit cheated that it doesn't continue. That said, I highly recommend this novel to those who have the patience and a willingness to imagine.
