"Here I was looking for some symbolism and metaphors and, um... sometimes a duck is just a duck!"

This was such a cute, heart-warming story. I read it with a 5th grade student I'm working with and I love that this is a story kids read at that age!

If you're looking for fast paced, exciting plot, this isn't it. But every part of this story was so special. It's a coming of age story for our main character, August (Auggie), as well as every character he encounters. The story changes perspectives, which really enriches the whole book. It really solidified how every person leads their own individual, vivid life, which we can often forget while leading our own vivid lives. Auggie is just a normal kid, that just happens to be perceived by everyone else as something other than normal. This story is really just about a kid, that really just wants to be a kid.

I think the story overall makes bullying seem more black and white than it really is nowadays, but overall does a good job on how to overcome these mishaps, and how there are more good people out in the world than bad. Every kid should read this book once in their life, it's a fun, endearing story that anyone would enjoy!
