This novel redefines what it means to be a masterpiece. I know I give 5 stars to a lot of the things I read….but I do not use the word “masterpiece” lightly. One of the most assured triumphs I have ever encountered. I just can’t believe it. It’s incredible in every way.

Jesmyn Ward is, undoubtedly, the best to ever do it. The way she writes about the South and about the people in it…masterclass. The way she bends language and forms intricacies out of her sentences? Poetry.

I’m so happy that I’m alive while Jesmyn Ward is writing.
