This was a novel that was not quite what I expected it to be. The premise was about a young woman who is super super anxious who agrees to be the secretary at a Catholic church who becomes obsessed with the disappearance and murder of her predecessor. What I stumbled into, however, was a story about an extremely depressed woman struggling with being alone in the universe and how nothing really matters.

Yes we eventually get to the bottom of the murder mystery, but the real story was the one where Gilda tries to find herself and overcome her depression.

This novel was equal parts funny and irreverent but also sad and moving. This was definitely a worthwhile read!
