Last Courtesan of Olympus by Amanda Meuwissen

5.0

I really loved this book! It was super interesting. Personally, I haven't read a lot of erotica based on mythology, so it was a unique experience to me. And now I'm committed to finding more like this, and to reading more books by Amanda Meuwissen!

I know quality of writing style is probably subjective, but I want to say that I thought the writing was so beautiful. Listen, this book was sexy times from beginning to end - but somehow there was world-building seamlessly interwoven between the descriptions of sexual acts. The descriptions of places/people/emotions were just gorgeous. And, like I said that I haven't read a lot of mythology erotica, but also I don't remember any of the plain old mythology itself that I learned way-back-when. Yet, from this book, I feel like I actually learned stuff? Like in between the very spicy-hot scenes and the gorgeous imagery, I also picked up some knowledge about mythology. So this book was really a win for me.

I also loved the set-up of the book and how the author did separate CWs for every chapter. I have no triggers and I wanna read everything, so personally it didn't affect how I read the book. But, if someone has very specific triggers, they'd be able to easily avoid a certain chapter if needed (although then they wouldn't get the entire story). Anyway, that was cool.

My comments per featured character (and some general comments) - beware of the spoilers! :
Spoiler
Aikos - Arrogant but with reason. Love that he found his purpose was to help others.
Dax - What a sweet boy. He deserves all the good things.
Hephaeastus - I felt so bad for him and how he had been treated. Glad that Aikos was able to give him some more confidence, and that things seemed to be working out in the end.
Hermes - The Power Bottom. Bless his little heart, he just wanted to be the main character in his own story.
Eros - I was so sad for him. His broken heart needed to be mended. For someone supposed to be the god of love, he had been lacking it.
Ares - The Secret sub. ;) This was such a pleasant surprise of a chapter. Love how Ares's symbol was a fist and then Aikos fisted him lol...
Poseidon - The underwater world was really neat! And Poseidon was a big ol' romantic at heart, who just wanted to braid his wife's hair and give pleasure with his tentacles. You know, like we all want from life!
Apollo - Another one that made me sad. Apollo had so much heartbreak and abandonment in his past. He just wanted someone to stay. I am very glad there was the hope of something epic for him, in the end.
Dionysus - Poor guy needed Aikos to remind him that he can take his own pleasure too, and not only focus on the pleasure of others. He seemed sweet. We love a Satyr-Mortal-God orgy.
Hades (and Persephone): Listen, I don't really want any female bodies in the books I read. But, in this case, it made sense to have Persephone along with Hades. And their bond was very special. (Her body was not described in detail so that made it easier for me.) I loved how soothing Hades was to Aikos. Persephone was a little cray and I coulda done without her but it made sense in the story for sure. I love how it opened Aikos's mind to what real love can be (not just physical love) and that it can be shared among multiple people.
Zeus - The most powerful of the gods, yet impotent downstairs. Luckily his pent up frustration was soothed by Aikos discovering his praise kink, so he was generous with Aikos's reward and gave him new life, in an unexpected way.

I thought it was super cool how each god granted some abilities to Aikos when he ascended to his godhood. And I really loved that Aikos's first act as a god was to bring Dax to Olympus, blow his mind with literally-divine sexy times, and make a very important introduction between him and another character...

The coolest part in these characters was how they were mostly the opposite of how the mortals perceived them - or maybe not the opposite, but they at least had a twist.

A fantastic book! I'll re-read it in the future!
