Last one to the party! I was swept up by this in audiobook format. Each character's chapter was read by a different voice. The audio fully delivered the twang of each accent and made each personality sparkle. I plan to recommend this to my 12 y.o. daughter. I loved the look back at the 60's and the heartbreakingly slow progress of desegregation. It's an existence I can hardly reconcile is just 50 years in the past from up here in my privileged seat. Everyone can benefit from peering into this window of another world. And it's foolhardy to believe that these experiences and sentiments were fully left behind or resolved in the past.
