Over My Dead Body: Unearthing the Hidden History of America's Cemeteries by Greg Melville
4.0
Dad jokes x cemeteries x travel writing! The collab we didn't know we needed.
Melville explores not only the burial practices of different times and regions and how they overlap - the ancient decor at current graveyards - but also the politics of burial especially with respect to Civil Rights. Melville also explores the intersection between parks and cemeteries, the changing nomenclature from burial yards to cemeteries, the various claims of first and much much more. I also appreciated his look at the three NYC cemeteries beyond Trinity:Green-Wood, Woodlawn and Central Park and their roles as art galleries. An excellent read
