This has been on my to-read list for quite a while and I ended up pretty disappointed by it. There was a lot about it that was very informative - a lot of Dominican history that I didn't know before - but the plot, writing, and characters were all just kind of meh to me. Plus gratuitous use of the n-word (by a non-Black author) and plenty of fatphobia were both turn offs.
Graphic: Body shaming, Bullying, Cursing, Fatphobia, Racial slurs, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, Violence, Suicide attempt, and Murder
Moderate: Child abuse
