Samantha Young is seriously AMAZING at writing romantic suspense in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat and turning page after page until you realize you never want it to end!

While this is book one in a new series (The Highlands), it does continue with similar characters introduced in The Adair Family series – granted, it can also be read as a standalone, which is always fantastic!

This beauty has a brooding bodyguard who has a soft spot for kids, a single mom who has finally found her safe space in Scotland, and traumatic pasts that continue to show up and haunt them all on a regular basis, making the events unpredictable and filled with suspense.

Honestly, I love Sloane’s character. She’s an impressive single mom with the ability to bake cakes that bring men to their knees (literally sometimes! hehe) and despite all the crap she’s been through, she continues to make the world a great place for her kid, Callie – who is just adorable.

I cannot recommend her books enough. If you’re looking for a suspenseful read filled with spice and mutual longing, look no further
