With the proviso that I did enjoy the last two books of this series... this one did not do it for me. Perhaps it was timing, perhaps it was comparative to the female-protagonist books I've been reading but I feel like this was a weird book that left a yucky taste in my mouth. The mystery was quite gross - a couple passages turned my stomach.

I did not connect with Sebastian as much as I’d like... and I feel like the author decided she didn’t like the

heroine so made it impossible for them to be together. I never understood Cat’s reluctance and felt oddly like the author reinforced she wasn’t good enough for Sebastian because of her past. It felt like shaming to me and left me with a gross feeling. Even before the oh suddenly they are related situation. Then she can’t even have a romantic relationship? Maybe I’m reading too much into it but I need a break. Maybe that was what she wanted but her whole character did not make sense to me.

Don’t get me wrong I didn’t like them together either but the way it ended was really dumb.
