I Have Some Questions For You by Rebecca Makkai
3.0
Was it a mystery? Was it lit fit? Idk. It started off somewhat strong. I thought it’d be a 4 star read. But it dragged as it went on. I didn’t really see a true point to the letter narration format. And the ending was largely unsatisfying.
Also. The dialogue tags. This is a general pet peeve of mine. But gracious this book took it to the next level. Every other line was “I said” or “she/he said”. Was this a stylized choice because of the letter format? Or just uncreative writing? Either way, I hated it.
Idk. This was just very middle for me. Not terrible. Not a waste of my time. But I also didn’t love it. There was also a production miss after a quote “from a podcast” that I felt would have added to the story telling. But that’s just a small thing.
3 medium stars.
