Spellbinder by L.J. Smith
3.0
Technically I don't think Spellbinder is as strong as Daughters of Darkness or Secret Vampire which is a shame because I felt like it had the potential to be. I did still enjoy it because I've always found books about witches that use actual herbal and magic lore & myths interesting but the characters felt a bit bland. I felt like Thea could have been more interesting if she hadn't been angry at Blaise, scared in general or doped up on love most of the time. There were a few moments that showed other parts of her character but it seemed like she was largely defaulted into one of three modes mentioned before. It also would have been nice to have a brief insight into Blaise or Eric's mind at some point, like we do with Philip & James in Secret Vampire or with Mark, Ash and Jade in Daughters of Darkness. Instead Spellbinder is all from Thea's point of view and this single viewpoint is a unfortunate trend that continues in most of the series with a few exceptions. Maybe the story would have been richer or at least other major characters like Blaise and Eric wouldn't have felt so one note.
