A Cross-Country Wedding by Courtney Walsh is another really good read. I absolutely adored every second of A Cross-Country Christmas and knew I had to read this sequel asap. And I am so glad I did. This sequel follows Maddie and Simon as they journey to Illinois with Lauren and Will (from A Cross-Country Christmas) to celebrate Lauren and Will’s upcoming wedding. In addition to watching Maddie and Simon and Lauren and Will engage as good friends on a cross-country trip, readers are also treated to flashbacks into Maddie and Simon’s ten-year best-friend relationship. We see how they met, their first (and only) date, Simon’s constant proclivity to save Maddie from disastrous relationships, and Maddie’s unending urging to get Simon to live a little. This story is a great example of how to utilize the best-friends-to-lovers trope. I confess that I typically do not like this trope. Too often, there is unnecessary miscommunication or no communication at all, and both drive me crazy. What’s the point of a book when the main characters refuse to talk to each other? But Walsh doesn’t do that. Her characters talk. And when they don’t confide in one another in the exact moment I think they should, they do confide in the reader and explain why a thing is a thing. Sure, I wanted Maddie to run to Simon and blurt her truths at him, but I understood why she wasn’t in the moment and that makes all the difference between a good usage of the best-friends-to-lovers trope and a bad. I loved watching Maddie and Simon and Lauren and Will be good friends and have each other’s backs. I loved watching Maddie journey through her feelings for Simon. And I loved, loved, loved watching Simon grow from Maddie’s best friend (with a secret crush) to something way, way more. All in all, A Cross-Country Wedding is one of the best best-friends-to-lovers romance I’ve ever read.

A Cross-Country Wedding is a well-executed best-friends-to-lovers Contemporary Romance that I highly recommend. I enjoyed this story immensely and will miss my time with these delightfully charming characters. If you’re in the mood for a super sweet Contemporary Romance full of depth and heart, then this is definitely the book for you!
