This is British history/sci-fi/humor/absurdist fiction, a crazily ambiguous category that I adore. It's frighteningly clever and intellectual while just the correct degree of wacky. A sort of Douglas Adams like foray into British literary history, very fun! Lucky me there's a whole series.
