Home Before Dark is a chilling psychological suspense novel.  It’s also a book within a book!  The book alternates between Maggie in present day and her father’s book House of Horrors, from 25 years ago. Once again, Riley Sager manages to paint a very creepy picture for the reader.  There is a genuine scare factor to the book. I’d say this is his scariest book, yet.  I had my assumptions about one character and they turned out to be right, but I had no idea how or why.  I was thoroughly shocked and pleased with the ending.  I also really liked all the characters.   This isn’t your standard ghost story. It’s a mild gothic atmosphere mixed with family mystery.  If you’re looking for a good paranormal thriller, check this one out!
