i liked this, it was a fun read but i can’t help but think that if this centered around anyone other than the young avengers, i would probably feel pretty indifferent towards it.
i had a decent amount of issues with this. mainly: the plot was kinda all over the place and there was too much going on. the main storyline is that billy and tommy think wanda is their mother so they go looking for her, which is simple enough…. until you throw in magneto, doctor doom, quicksilver, random avengers vs x-men squabbles, that point at the beginning about billy not really having control over his powers / not knowing the full extent of his powers that seemed to be a big deal but then they only brought it up like twice throughout the rest of the story, iron lad showing up killing vision and then leaving, cassie dying for basically no reason, scott lang kinda sorta coming back, the young avengers disbanding… and probably a million other things i forgot about. it’s just too much. half of that could’ve easily been left out without impacting the main storyline at all.
another big issue i had is that they basically ignored tommy the whole time? like he’s wanda’s son too but they gave him maybe two or three moments in the spotlight and then left him out the rest of the time. we see him hug wanda once and he says like two sentences to her and he talks with magneto and quicksilver a little bit, but that’s it. and none of those interactions were even very deep or meaningful?!?? even if they wanted to focus on billy, tommy should’ve still had a WAY bigger role than he actually got.
i love the YA with all of my heart so i will enjoy anything they are in, but this could’ve been a lot better than it was. it’s especially frustrating because this is basically the last time we see eli (besides a few panels of him at billy and teddy’s wedding in empyre) and the last time tommy has anything close to an important role in anything. i wish that their last major appearances could’ve been in something better. but oh well. this was still decent. it gave me tons of good billy/teddy content and for that, i am willing to overlook a lot of mistakes.
