A queer holiday-themed small-town childhood-friends-to-lovers romance with a bisexual country-pop singer as the main character and family as an important part of the story? There's literally nothing that screams my name louder than this book. Seriously, when I read the synopsis, I thought I was dreaming for a second, because it sounded like it must've been written just for me.
Naturally, I went in with very high expections. But I'm happy to report that I wasn't disappointed.
I fell in love with the characters (both main and secondary) and the idyllic small town backdrop right from the start. All of the characters are insanely loveable and the interactions between Brooke and Nicole, as well as the matchmaking tactics of their parents and the other townspeople, made me smile more than once.
The plot as well as the dialogues do feature a number of clichés - which I don't mean as a critique, I love a good cliché, if it's well done -, but they were handled with a lot of self-awareness, which is something I personally love. Moreover, the conflict wasn't just based on unnecessary miscommunication, which I appreciate a lot.
The writing isn't flawless, but it does make the characters come alive in a way that pulled me into the story to the extent that I simply wasn't able to put it down, which - in my opinion - is far more important anyway.
Overall this is a very sweet romance that - in my opinion - is absolutely perfect especially for this time of year.
