The Collarbound by Rebecca Zahabi
This has been on my radar for a while and now the sequel is out I thought I’d take the plunge. I think this is an underrated book, I really enjoyed a lot about this
I thought the magic system in this book was interesting. It’s all about using the mind rather than physical violence but it delves even deeper with unique concepts to the system. Defeating someone mentally rather than physically intensifies the conflicts
The two main characters come from different backgrounds and they are both shrouded with their own mysteries and secrets, they’re both intriguing to follow and both characters work well when they’re together and separately
I really loved this world too, especially the Nest where the mages reside and the history behind the place
My only gripe with this book is that there is little or next to no plot, you find yourself just following characters and going with the flow. It’s more of a set up book for the next in the series so I’m glad I decided to wait to buy both books at the same time
