This was absolutely one of my favourite reads of the year.
Masterfully paced, written beautifully and with such an intriguing plot: romance mixed with politics, with a side dish of spy shenanigans and violence, is probably my favourite mix in a book. Topped off with the twenties setting... well, I didn't stand a chance.
I loved every single bit of it.
The characters were amazing, complex and well-rounded and I literally cannot wait to read more about them and see them interact more.
Pheobe and Maise were wonderful. I loved them so damn much and I really really really want to read more about them. Maise was such a good friend and Pheobe, well. I loved her from the first word she uttered.
Kim was slightly more tricky to love, but I guess that was the author's aim. Dishonest, dubious, never quite what he appears to be. I DID love him in the end because I cannot resist an ambiguous character, and I cannot wait to read more about him.
Will, on the other hand, I adored.
I can name only a few mains that absolutely stole my heart, unconditonally and without any sort of doubts, and he is one on the few. I loved him, I loved how straight-forward and direct he was, how he wouldn't take any sh*t from ANYBODY. I loved reading about his past, his time in the war. I loved his slang, his stubborness. And if something were to happen to him, I'd probably jump out of a window.
I really loved him and Kim together, they had a lot of chemistry and hopefully they won't break my heart too much in the next book.
Speaking of which, I'd sell both my kidneys to read it *cries* , July is so far awayyyyyy.
I might need to do a re-read straight away.
