I sooooooo wanted to love this book and did after the initial Earth-bound chapters. I really enjoyed Aza's voice, and I fell in love with her family. Unlike many idealized YA families, they felt real, and their losses felt real as well. However, the fantasy elements of the story were too cartoonish for me and the environmental commentary was waaaaaaay too heavy-handed and obvious. Sigh, I don't know whether I'm excited for the sequel or not (which probably isn't a good sign).
