F.Y.I this entire review contains spoilers
This book was so good, I struggled to get into it in the beginning, and there was a full month where I didn’t pick it up, but one day I did, when I was only 23% of the way through, and 3 days later I finished it. It’s just so binge worthy and I literally could not put this book down.

I've been good with avoiding spoilers of this book. The only thing I've been spoiled for this series is that Cardan and Jude end up together (which, duh), and, when I was reading this book, I got spoiled that Ghost was going to betray them, I just didn’t know how, but I was quite annoyed about it. But otherwise I’ve been very good. Very proud of myself.
Jude Duarte
My love, my soulmate, my woman. She is my favourite, which, as sad as this is to say, is a surprise, because for almost every book I’ve read, a guy is my favourite. But Jude is literally perfection, she can do nothing wrong and how can you not love her??? She is a girlboss, and I fucking love her. I love unhinged characters that don’t care about murdering and are very morally grey, and when they’re a woman, 100000% better. She is literally so strong, she managed to defend herself and make it home with an arrow in her thigh, she survived being kidnapped and tortured for a month, she beat Balekin in a battle when he had the much greater upper hand, and she managed to live with Cardan for that long (joke, obviously).
"The High King doesn't know, and you're unlikely to tell him once I cut out your tongue."
Cardan Greenbriar
Sighhhh, how can a man say so many sweet words and make so many sweet touches, AND THEN BE A FUCKING ARSEHOLE. FUCK YOU CARDAN YOU WERE SUCH A GOOD MAN AND THEN YOU WENT AND EXILED YOUR OWN FUCKING WIFE, WHEN DESPITE IT BEING A PURELY POLITICAL MARRIAGE, YOU KNEW THERE WAS FEELINGS INVOLED. FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU. Okay, anger out, let’s talk. This man is so fucking confusing, in the terms of I don’t know how to feel about him. On one hand, he’s a romance king, he kisses her sweetly, calls her pet names, trusts her with his kingdom, makes a decision that will negatively affect his crown to get Jude back, confesses that he needs her near, wraps his arms around her and pulls her into bed. But then on the other hand, he fucking uses her, he takes her trust and her feelings for him, and crushes them to use them for his own gain, and then exiles her. Like what the fuck mate. I understand that to keep the peace Jude had to be punished, but why the fuck did he exile her, when he literally just said that he can’t function without her near, and when she isn’t with him he hates himself and who he is. Like Cardan are you actually okay in the brain? I love you but I hate you, I feel like Jude.
“I wasn't kind, Jude. Not to many people. Not to you. I wasn't sure if I wanted you or if I wanted you gone from my sight so that I would stop feeling as I did, which made me even more unkind. But when you were gone—truly gone beneath the waves—I hated myself as I never have before.”
Taryn Duarte
My Tiktok for you page has been slowly filling with Cruel Prince Tiktoks, and I saw a good few talking about how much they hate Taryn and how she betrayed her sister, and the whole time I was like “Marrying your sisters situationship is a bit mental, but like given the circumstances, was understandable.” But I get it now, and I will gladly jump on the hate Taryn bandwagon. Like what an absolute cow. I don’t get how you can betray your own twin sister, the person that has literally been with you since birth, who was your only friend for most of your life, the only person who truly gets you and your situation, and betray them for your father who murdered your birth parents, who was close to murdering your twin sister, and if need be, would murder you too. Like the logic is just not in the fucking room with us. Fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you, you little bitch. :)
While I was murdering Balekin, while Cardan was poisoned and disorientated, Madoc made his move against the crown. Against me. And he did it with his daughter Taryn by his side.
I loved this book once I got into it, and I’m so excited to start The Queen of Nothing to see how it ends. The only thing I didn’t like was how confusing the meetings were, but that was possibly my fault for not picking up the book for a month, so I had no idea who half of the names were. But other than that it was amazing!!!
