I received a kindle copy from Estelle Leboucher to read and review.
Honestly, I had a hard time getting into this book. The storytelling is mostly narration, like listening to an older relative tell their old stories over holiday dinner of days gone past. Very minimal dialogue except to vaguely narrate what was said, what was thought, what was done, how things worked. Not everything made sense, and some things that were avoided saying were explained later, but the reader is expected to just take everything at face value without the enjoyment of maneuvering through the details (much of which are absent) and coming to any conclusions on their own. Several parts get very confusing in regard to relationships, ages, and the involvement of certain parties. The passage of time is barely explained or understood and is very hard to follow until you’re maybe told many pages later, and even then, it doesn’t quite add up.
While I’m honored to have been invited to read and review, I do feel guilty for not being able to leave a glowing perception of this particular story.
