The Break-Up Pact by Emma Lord

3.0

This wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t my favorite. I didn’t hate the reading experience, but I wanted more from it. I really wanted to love it more based on the blurb and the tropes, and well, I got this stunning edition from @afterlightbooks. Fake dating and friends to lovers are some of my absolute favorite tropes so I am sad that this one didn’t work for me. I just struggled with it. I have read other books by this author and really enjoyed so I think that this is an isolated experience. I did enjoy the characters individually. They were well developed and thought out and had great growth over the course of the book. However, together they didn’t necessarily have the chemistry that I needed. They felt better as friends not lovers, the lover’s aspect just wasn’t believable for me. Their relationship felt forced and not natural. The pacing on this book was fast, and that aspect was a needed treat. I prefer faster reads to slow burns but because I needed more chemistry from the characters it felt almost too fast. I did listen to this one from @libby.books and the audio experience was fun. I think that the narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life.

This one isn’t a horrible book, and if you want an insta romance with two enjoyable characters, then you should check it out.
