Pretty Pretty Boys by Gregory Ashe

3.0

3.5 - pretty pretty boys has a pretty pretty cover, but the story itself… yeah idk. Mixed opinions overall, will probs read book two before deciding whether to read or drop the series.

I liked both characters, hazard especially. The grumpy, guarded new detective back in town partnered with the town’s golden boy aka his high school bully dynamic really worked for me. I liked that their relationship had lots of layers to it and you could feel the depth of it in their interactions. The tension between them was felt from the get go and all the suspense and build up around the locker room memory was *chefs kiss*

the case, however, was corny as hell and felt like two mustache twirling villains on two opposing political sides that lacked any sort of nuance. And I picked up on a little bit of copangada to be honest, like maybe the author’s dad was a police man or something idk but that was the vibe I got… Like the one college professor who called them pigs every other sentence while shes being portrayed as a lunatic
