Fragile Sanctuary by Catherine Cowles
5.0
This book was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint! What a way to kick off the Sparrow Falls series! If you are a fan of any of Catherine Cowles other books, then you will love this one as well.
Troupes in this book:
- broken hero
- brother’s best friend
- serial unaliver
- forced proximity
- grumpy X sunshine
- touch her and die vibes
- found family
Micro Troupes I Love:
- “eyes on me”
- “F@*k it”
Things I LOVED about this book:
- Rho and Anson were PERFECT for each other. They understood the grief that they both saw in each other. Even though their grief was different, they found comfort with one another. They understood how to be there for each other and I love that Rho was able to bulldoze through the walls that Anson had around his heart.
Quote: “You make me want to reach for things I thought were dead and buried. You make me feel again.”- Anson
- I love the found family troupe, especially in this book. Everyone is so connected and supportive. They would do anything for each other and their connections are so genuine and heartwarming.
- Grandma Lolli is a hilarious!
- The romantic suspense is perfection. It kept me guessing and wondering up until the end.
- I loved Rho’s character. Anson described her perfectly “such a light, even though she’d walked through so much darkness.” Even though she was still dealing with grief and had to overcome a traumatic childhood, she had a positive outlook and saw the beauty in simple things. As Anson said “you take the bad and turn it into good.”
- I am a fan of the show Criminal Minds so I liked the profiler BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) vibe to this book.
- Anson’s character growth. He was closed off and so guarded. As he said “I do dogs, not people”. As his background unfolded, you understood why he was this way. He saw himself as a liability to others, but once Rho snuck past his defenses, he opened up and let people in.
* make sure to check out the Bonus Scene!
I have read every single Catherine Cowles book, so to say I am a fan is an understatement. I love her characters and how invested in the story I am from the very first page. She is forever an auto buy author for me.
I also listened to an ALC of this book and Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber did a fantastic job voicing these characters and bringing their story to life. 5/5 for narration.
Thank you Catherine Cowles for the ARC and the ALC! I am so excited about this series.
