This book is written right out of that age. It’s like he recorded his 14 year old thoughts and transcribed them. There is no like, retrospective hint. It all feels very visceral. Navarro cannot admit to himself his feelings because it goes against everything he has learned. But he can’t help but feel the feelings. So there is a lot of skirting around the situation. When he thinks about taking his own life, his reason not to is very much like a 14 year old which is why I think this book is so powerful. It’s not, the gift of hindsight. It’s not like, something random happened and now he is older and sees why he shouldn’t. He very simply found the will within himself.
I love the illustrations as well. How it was all black and white unless there was great emotion. Great book.
