Happy Place by Emily Henry
5.0
I am in a bath of my tears. I always said that I wasn’t an Emily Henry girl even though I loved Beach Read just because I hated Book Lovers and can never bring myself to read People We Meet On Vacation but this book has convinced me otherwise.
My heart was broken for Harriet for so much of the book because you can understand exactly why she’s feeling the way she’s feeling. As the reader you have 0 insight as to why the relationship between her and Wyn ended (so even less than she does, and she doesn’t even have much either). Throughout their conversations and flashbacks you slowly uncover why things ended and it’s heartbreaking.
Wyn although flawed has so many good boyfriend traits. When the Harriet and Wyn first reconnect you can tell through the way he speaks to her that there is still feelings even if Harriet doesn’t see it herself.
The dual timeline was so interesting. I sobbed when I realized about halfway through that she called every memory of the two of them “Happy Place” even though they were in different places because he was her Happy Place. I also sobbed again when it got to the flashback chapters of the beginning of the end and how all those chapters were titled Dark Place. Both of the chapters taking place in her apartment, in her world that she dealt with everyday, the places she should feel most comfortable and safe broke my heart.
