A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
ReRead 3/11/20:
On reread this is an easy 5 star. I just love this damn book. I agree with my old review that Feyre goes through such amazing growth throughout this book. I could read about her, Rhys, and the inner circle forever - I just love the characters so much.
Rhys' monoluge confessing to Feyre about the mating bond will forever be one of my favorite chapters of all time. Honestly just writing this review makes me want to go back and read it one more time. I swoon so hard.
4.5 Stars
Holy crap this was SO much better than the first book. I was completely blown away by this. I have quite a few thoughts so this might be a pretty lengthy review.
Here's what I LOVED about this story.
1. I found Feyre unbearable in the first book. I thought her character annoying, needy, and 1 dimensional. But in this book I grew to really respect her. She is still snarky and occasionally immature. But I really appreciated the story arch about her wanting to live her life, be on her own, and take care of herself.
2. Feyre's wasn't over night a crazy strong warrior, totally in control of her power. I hate how in fantasy, there is often a character who gains new powers, and in about 10 pages they go from knowing nothing, to taking on the biggest, baddest there ever was and totally annihilating them. It's unrealistic and frustrating for a reader. I appreciated that Feyre's powers grew and revealed themselves slowly throughout the whole book.
3. Rys. Ok I got out my opinions on the actions in the first book.. but man what a well written love interest in this one. I was fully swooning along with everyone else by the end. He was such a well written and dynamic character. He had feelings, made mistakes, struggles... And as everything was going down in the Hybern castle, by heart broke for this and Feyre.
4. I will say it every time I read her books but damn SJM can write a good steamy scene *fans self*
5. The side characters. Ughhh the side characters in this were wonderful. Lucien was fine in the first book but the Court of Dreams is everything. I grew so attached to each of them throughout the book.
6.
Now excuse me while I run out and ACOWAR....

My heart nearly broke when Cassian's wing were injured trying to protect Azriel6.

I liked the little twist at the end about Feyre fooling Tamlin and returning to the spring court as a spy. I also liked that Rhys and Feyre's bond was connected. It alluded to weakness in the king - his unawareness to his failure. And I'm looking forward to seeing how Feyre as a spy plays out in the next book. Now excuse me while I run out and ACOWAR....
