Fae Hunter by Sarah K.L. Wilson

Had some cool concepts but was ultimately shallow character wise, world wise, and plot wise. The more they added the worse it got somehow? Like I know it was supposed to sound cool and interesting but it just sounded like a bunch of cool sounding things with not a lot of substance. There was no explanation for why things were the way they were they just...were, and you’re just expected to accept it and move on to the next cool sounding thing.
The pacing was also pretty bad and there wasn’t any tension. When you have a book that’s this short you need to make every scene count. This book did not do that. We get nowhere plot wise over halfway into the book and I was so bored and didn’t care about any of the elements that were supposed to add conflict and tension.
The main character also talks about “using her anger to fuel her” and I swear I skimmed the whole book and it was used over 15 times. It was so repetitive and I’m like...is this your whole personality? Girl...get some help. Also, for some reason people blame her for a everything going wrong in the town when literally it was other people’s decisions and she just happened to be very loosely connected to them?? Like, it didn’t make ANY sense.
There were a few interesting things but I can’t even remember what they were right away I really have to think about it. The concept of the second sight is cool and the type of faeries are cool but not really a whole lot of new or intriguing things. The scarf as a way to see either the real world or the second world is kinda neat? But other than that I was really underwhelmed.
